Conflict Management

Focused consulting to solve your most pressing problems.

Your biggest problems are rooted in conflict. And it’s costing you a lot.

Weak collaboration is often rooted in unresolved conflict among department leaders. Projects go over budget and get behind schedule because the tough conversations were avoided along the way.

You’re facing tough crises right now, and you need to have the tough conversations that will get you through. I can help.

Conflict resolved = problem solved.

Whether it’s bickering departments, the senior team avoiding key issues, or frustrated volunteers asking for more control, these conflicts cost you a lot. Results slip, opportunities are missed, and when it gets really bad, good people resign to go somewhere else. You can’t afford that drain on your resources, but you’ve already tried to deal with the conflict and it’s not getting better. Something needs to change.

Bring me in for three months and I’ll help you get to the conversations that will move the needle.

How it works.

I will work directly with you as a leader (bringing in whoever else we need) to solve your conflict-based problems. Ninety days is long enough to make substantial progress on most difficult situations. If you want me to continue helping, you can extend the work in three month increments. Here’s how it works:

  • Cadence: A scheduled working call every two weeks—or weekly if the situation needs it. You set the rhythm.
  • Between calls: Texts, short calls, emails, “I have a thing tomorrow morning, can we walk through it”—yes. The point of having a thinking partner is having them when you need them, not just when the calendar says so.
  • Facilitation: I’ll design and facilitate the specific conversations with the right people that will move the needle.
  • Fee: $4,500 per quarter. No hourly add-ons, no surprises.

90 days  •  $4500  •  Problems solved.

Why Do This Work?

Speed

We waste so much time doing end-runs around complete departments because we’re afraid of conflict. Want to finish ahead of schedule? Then handle your conflicts.

Agility

My culture data show that organizations who handle change well also report the ability to deal with conflict easily. Resolving your conflicts helps you manage change.

Retention

The top talent won’t tolerate a workplace full of drama and unresolved conflict, at least not for long. Create a workplace people want to be at, which means handling conflict.

"

Jamie helped our association staff manage conflict better by helping us to ensure the conflict stays healthy and adds to our organization development and not detract.  We have been so happy with his assistance on conflict management, that we have brought Jamie in to deliver a training program with our members.”

My Approach

Learning.
Data.
The right conversations.

Bring me in for three months, and I’ll work closely with you (and whoever else is involved) to get the conflict resolved. Calls, texts, facilitated meetings—whatever the work demands. At a bare minimum we’ll schedule standing bi-weekly calls, and I’ll certainly do some teaching on those calls of key conflict resolution skills and frameworks as needed. But the real focus is on your specific conflict and what it will take to get you to the other side.

I bring a master’s degree in conflict analysis and resolution to this work and have been practing for three decades. I rely heavily on bringing in real data from your system to guide the conversations that move the needle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this coaching?

It includes coaching for you the individual, but it goes beyond that to include facilitation, if needed, with you and others, plus consulting to help design the solutions to the problems.

Can I include others on my regular calls?

Yes, group calls are included. I’ll work with you however you need me to on this project. It is designed to be flexible.

Does this work apply to Boards and Volunteers?

Yes. Your volunteer leaders are part of the organization and part of the culture, so conflict there can be just as costly, so I often work with both volunteers and staff.

How long does this work usually take?

Three months is the minimum, and then it’s up to you. Very complex conflicts might need six months to move the needle, and some clients keep me on for a year or more for ongoing support as more conflicts emerge.
