A few years ago, ASAE and The Center started a "leadership book club." I’ve been involved from the beginning, and I love the sessions. I try to facilitate at least one each cycle.
THe program has evolved so it doesn’t focus only on books, and it is following a thematic line based on the "Supertrends" book by karl Albrecht that they have recently published.
On Tuesday, February 21 I’ll be faciltiating one of the sessions. The trend we are looking at is "Counter-Americanism," although really it is more broadly about the issue of culture. Specifically, with the world getting "smaller," your association is guaranteed to be working in a multi-cultural envrionment (particularly if you do work internationally, but even if you stay States-side). In multicultural settings, models and approaches that are stereotypically "American" are now getting push back. The question is, how rooted are your organization and its programs in "American" ways of doing things? Are there ways in which you need to think, act, organize, or conduct business differently given this trend?
The call is from 12:00pm to 1:30pm, and there is no registration fee! More information is here.
Hey – here’s an article I found off of Instapundit that’s perhaps germane.
