Even though I just had a vacation in July, here I am taking a few more days off. The good kind–where I will have zero access to both email and cell phone. I am riding my bicycle from Pittsburgh, PA  to my home in Gaithersburg, MD. This is a four-day ride (310 miles) that I do with friends every year–you can even follow along with our progress on the ride’s website (www.rideallegheny.com).

In preparation for a time-management training I delivered recently, I came across Stephen Covey’s point that some recreational activities are more important than others. Some recreation can actually be a waste of time, but the ones that are life-giving are actually re-creation, rather than merely recreation. This trip qualifies for re-creation (although I’ll probably want to re-create my legs come Sunday).
