Sorry to break this to you, but the future of leadership is not about you.
That’s the title of a guest post I did this week over on the blog of Shawn Murphy and Ted Coine, two outstanding thought leaders in the leadership arena. They did a series on the “Switch and Shift” blog on the future of leadership, and my post was the closing entry in the series.
The post talks about leadership as a systems capacity (rather than an individual capacity or the person in a position of authority) and connects to some key points from Humanize. Please go read the whole post. The field of “leadership” was one of three management “best practices” that we challenged in Chapter 3 of humanize. I think we are WAY too focused on individuals when we talk about leadership, and that’s why we seem to make so little progress in that arena.
